Buying koi is a pleasure and a challenge.
Buying koi is a big decision and not a hesitation.
Above all, and apart from ensuring that your Koi meets all the quality standards, most importantly, you, as the owner of the fish, should be happy with the fish that you have chosen. The fish must appeal to you, despite any comments that you may be receiving.
All and any grade of Koi, requires similar attention. Make sure that your new Koi are introduced into a stress-free pond environment.
Few steps to follow when introducing new fish into the pond:
- Without opening the bag, float the fish bag on top of the pond water surface for at least 30 minutes.
- After 30 minutes, open the bag and add some of your pond water into the bag.
- Release the fish and water into a fish bowl or a blue inspection bowl, and wait for few minutes. At the same time, do inspect the fish for any markings, injuries or even fish parasites that are visible to the naked eye. If any of these are found, follow the necessary procedures to resolve the issue or consult your nearest Koi dealer.
- Alternatively, introduce the fish into the pond slowly. The fish can be carefully handled by hand if you are experienced or using a transferring Koi Sock Net. It is used for transferring Koi to avoid fish being slipped or dropped when handled by hand.
- Discard the water in the bucket.
