Client Testimonials - Matala Filter Systems

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS - MATALA FILTER SYSTEMS

What are our clients have to say about Matala filter systems?

“I recently moved house and inherited a koi pond of approx 30,000litres, filtered by a sand filter, a small biological unit and a small UV light.

This systems was very ineffective , very hard and time consuming work to keep the sand fitler needed cleaning at least every third day and if I was away from home on business, it was not a task that my wife could complete. Water chemistry was very varied and it was extremely difficult to maintain all required properties at the required levels and some fish losses were experienced.

Being a newcomer to the wonderful world of koi, I sought and flound sgreat help from the owners of King Koi, Pomona, Kempton Park.

After a consultation visit, I purchased two Matala “Koi- Clear V105” filters, disposed of the and and small biological filters and hoped for the best!

Initially, I was very concerned as it took several weeks for the filters to mature, but now I have clear water with a stable chemistry and happy koi.

Cleaning of the filters is simplicity itself and the time spent on maintenance is a fraction of that previously expended on the sand filters system. The flushing of the filters is simplicity itself, takes about 30 mins every 4 to 6 weeks, rather than 30 mins every third day !!!!

I can therefore recommend not only the Matala filtration systems to any koi keeper with fitration problems, but also the help and assistance provided by the management of King KOi is also first class.”
Mr Dave Goode- Boksburg

“My koi career is 3 years, I used sand filter and bio-filter, but my water was never clear before, water looked like pea soup, never able to see the bottom of the pond. Now I use the Matala filter only. My pond is clear, can see each little details, fish is healthy and water quality is good, pH level stays at 7.5.
It is actually such an easy system. When I’m away on business, my wife can also do it easily. I recommend the Matala filter system to koi hobbyist; It’s worth every penny; Get one and see for yourself!!”
Mr W. Venter- Bonaero Park

“My Koi career is 15 years, I used sand filter. Now I use Matala in the mini vortex. The water clarity is good, and fish health and water quality are excellent. Matala filter is simple and very fast. Just a few minutes per week to rinse off dirt and pump to waste. It saves water as well. Matala filter system is an excellent system simple-fast- better. I recommend the Matala filter system."
Mr Les Bell- Edenvale

“My Koi career is 3 years. I used vortex with brushes; In the warm season, the water was not clear. Now, I replace the brushes with Matala in the second chamber. My water clarity and water quality are good; the fish health is excellent. The Matala filter media is convenient and effective.
Matala is very easy to clean; just by lifting the rolls up and clean with the water.
Matala is an excellent filtration medium; it is very easy to clean. I recommend Matala filter systems.”
Mr T. Peens- Boksburg

“We did not buy the correct filters in the beginning because we thought that the filters that were cheaper was able to filter the water adequately. We thought that the more expensive filter was only selling because of name. We decided to buy Matala Biosteps 10 filter after Sherry From King Koi came to our house and advised us to buy the above filter. We have been very satisfied with the filter and pump that we purchased from Sherry. The advice and service from Sherry has been exceptionally satisfactory, and we have no reservation in recommending her expertise.”

“My koi career is 3 years, and 6 years in koi interest. My koi pond size is 27000L with 23 kois ranging from 30cm to 65cm.

My initial systems was consist of 2 bottom drains, settlement chamber, vortex with brushes and floating media, 2 sand filters, 2 UV lights, and the surface skimmer. The water was not crystal clear; lots of the floating algae and I wanted to keep better koi and better water quality. I wanted more surface area for biological filtration and ease of cleaning filter media.

A year ago, I installed the Matala filter media in the vortex, 1 air pump with 5 air disks, 2 in the pond and 3 in the filters. More clarity in my water and easier cleaning of Matala matting. No More floating particles, water clarity has improved. The most significant differences after the new media installed are free-floating debris cleared up and more growth in my koi. I would definitely recommend Matala filter system, it is a good quality product and ease of maintenance; it is not expensive in the long term.”
Mr A. Cassim- Lenasia

“My Koi career is 3 years. I used filter system with sponge layers and bio-balls media. With this system the pond was never clear, the fishes were not energetic and was very difficult to clean at least once per week. Now I used only the Matala filter system. The water si crystal clear, fishes are healthy and happy and water quality is good. It is very very easy in maintenance: By rinsing the barrel and open and close the valve at the bottom. I recommend Matala filter system.”

The International clients

“My Koi career is 23 years. I used a few kinds of filter media: Matala, expanded clay, filter brush and Japanese Mats.

  • Matala is harder and has more even interstice than other mats.
  • I put the “Black Matala” in the 2nd settling tank, and I found it is very effective. It also releases the sediment better than other media.
  • For biological filtration Matala is better than other media due to its evenness of interstice, and there is not clogging tendency.
  • The hardness of this media makes cleaning easy. If necessary it is also possible to use a high pressure car washer. Unlike other filter media, it will not collapse or bend when washing.
  • No need for support to fix the media in the filtration tanks and easy to cut into any size simply by knife! Other matting is difficult to cut.
  • The period between each cleaning of the biological filtration tanks is much longer than before.”

“I am koi hobbyist for about 7 years now. In the past I have filteredmy pond using brush and Japanese Mat. Recently I expanded my koi pond to a volume of 100 tons and I am keeping 50 koi with average size 75cm. I installed Matala as filtration media and I am very pleased with the results.

  • This filter media is durable and the different densities available allow for progressive filtration- revolutionary in koi keeping!
  • None of the meida I formerly used gave me such a raped filtration response!
  • Matala remains aerobic, ther is no danger of build-up of anaerobic zones with toxic effects.
  • The finer mesh Matala is perfect Bio-home”

“My family is in koi keeping for more than 10 years. Our new farm close to Bangkok includes large mud ponds, breeding ponds and concrete holding tanks. These concrete tanks have a total volume of 1800 tons of water. Over more we also have a second facility in Bangkok that has 33 concrete tanks with 700 tons of water in total. We have installed Matala as filter media for our concrete ponds Maintenance of our facilities is much easier with Matala. As we must be able to keep fish at high density all our ponds have settlement chambers filled with Black Matala. Cleaning of the chambers is fast and easy and there is very little suspended solids going to our biological filtration chambers. Our filters are dee and we have installed aeration in the transfer ports before and between the biological chambers to enrich water with oxygen without disturbing the filter media. The flow through of the filter is very even, oxygen levels remain optimal and we don’t have problems with clogging. Initially before our bio-filters were mature or in case of sudden increase of fish density we had some trouble with green water but now the water is clear and quality is perfect. It helps a lot to keep our fish healthy.”

“I’m not a “Koi-Freak” but I have a lot of local origin fish in my pond. I am also very exigent to have clar and healthy water in my water garden so I can allow my children to have a swim in the pond on hot summer days. Last year, we build a pond of 40000 liters with a 3-chamber filter 220cm x 85cm, and a pump that gives a flow through 15000Liters per hour.

We stopped our filtration in early October 2001, rinsed the Matala filter media and kept the filter dry over winter to start-up again at the end of February 2002. The water became extremely dirty. There were a lot of green algae and sediment around our bottom drains. We didn’t change the water and the filter with Matala and UV system was able to clear the water and the pond bottom in leass than 2 weeks. During this time a lot of dirt was accumulating in the black Matala and I had to clean the first chamber twice. I used a high pressure cleaner keeping the media in the tank and it was fast and easy. In April the bio-chambers had completely recovered and I can see the water is again of top-quality.”

“We are Koi keeper for over 26 years now and we established our retail business about 20 year ago. We have been experimenting with many different filter media and have mainly used filter brush and Japanese filter mat before Matala came on the market. No filter media is as versatile as Matala! If we have to give a score than we would say Matala and Japanese Mat scores 100, Flocor 40, Brush 20, Filter foam/ Expanded Clay/ Alfagrog and gravel 10. The capacity for biological filtration and growing “ Bio-film” is the same for Matala and Japanese Mat but Matala is easier to clean and doesn’t clog. We install lots of filters and prefer to cut Matala because it is easier and healthier. When cutting Matala you can use simple tools and you don’t produce unhealthy blue PVC dust that will cover you all over. We regret Matala was not brought into the market 10 years earlier.”
